LASUN YUSUF DEBUNKS FRICTION BETWEEN EXECUTIVE AND LEGISLATIVE ARMS
The deputy speaker of the house of representatives, Lasun
Yusuf says the recent events as they are playing out in the National
Assembly does not mean there friction between the executive and the
legislative arms of government.
He spoke last weekend during his usual outreach to the people of his constituency in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.
The deputy
speaker said the people need to understand the principle of separation
of powers before they can appreciate the working relationship between
the two arms of government.
He observed that democratic governance is all about
functions and each arm should be allowed to carry out its functions
without any undue interference.
Apparently referring to the imbroglio generated by the
non-confirmation of Ibrahim Magu as the substantive chairman of the
(EFCC), the deputy speaker said it is a constitutional requirement that
the president should present those he wants to appoint to positions of
authority to the Senate for thorough screening.
On a comment credited to AbdulMumin Jubrin that President
Muhammodu Buhari should resign on health ground, Yusuf says there is no
basis for the comment.
